"What is God's will for my life?"
Have you ever asked yourself, or someone else, this question? It is a question often asked when a teen is nearing high school graduation and trying to figure out which path to take as they venture into the "real world."
I used to think that God's will for my life involved becoming a special education teacher, and after graduating high school I went to college and got certified in special education. I used to think that God's will for my life involved marrying my husband and moving to where he had lived for most of his life.
Don’t get me wrong. All those things were good, and God has allowed me to use each of those decisions to glorify Him. But I no longer think that I would have been outside the will of God if I would have gotten an accounting degree. I don't think I would have been outside the will of God if my husband and I would have decided to live in my home state instead of his.
I now think about God's will for my life being more about what the Westminster Shorter Catechism asks and answers in question number 1 -
"What is the chief end of man?"
"Man's chief end is to glorify God, and enjoy Him forever."
God's will for my life, and for your life, is to glorify Him daily and live in pursuit of the joy that comes from God. All the decisions we make in life are important, but the most important thing is to make sure that no matter what decision we make, we are striving to please Him in all that we do.
Don't stress about being in the perfect will of God each day when you wake up. Instead wake up each morning with the intention of glorifying God in all that you do that day - no matter how amazing or how boring your tasks are.
