If anyone were to look at my weekly schedule, they would most likely agree that nothing on my to-do list is downright bad. Others may even go as far as to say that the listed to-dos are fundamentally Christ-centered. Unfortunately, my busy life and the reasons I have for doing everything listed are (more times than not) self-centered rather than Christ-centered.
You see, although I do believe God has given me a heart to love and serve His people, I also know that my inability to say “no,” fear of missing out, pride in thinking nothing can be done without me, and my martyr mentality are huge reasons for why I take on so much.
When we jump at every opportunity (even opportunities that are God-honoring) without the slightest thought of consulting God Himself, we get ourselves into hapless positions. Meaning, we either deny someone else the opportunity to be a blessing, or we burn out quickly (and burn others in the process).
In the book, “Jesus Over Everything,” Lisa Whittle states, “…the priority of Jesus brings order to the chaos of our lives.” If your life feels busy and chaotic, due to your own making, rewind and ensure that Christ was and is your focus. Although we will always have stressors in this earthly life, we can be released from a plethora of “to-do” type burdens and have renewed strength and clarity when our eyes are transfixed on Jesus, and we truly trust in His plan and design.
“A man’s mind plans his own way [as he journeys through life]. But the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.” (Proverbs 16:9)
